LUNCHEON The Livermore Heritage Guild held
its 2001 Annual General Meeting (AGM) for its members at the
Duarte Garage on Saturday, September 29. The event started
at 12 o'clock noon with a luncheon prepared by Gimanelli's Catering
Service.
SPEAKER Following the meal, Guild members
were privileged to have special guest speaker Maj. J. R. Schlechter
who gave a presentation about Lincoln Highway. Before his retirement
several years ago, Major Schlechter regularly patrolled portions
of California highways that once made up the California section
of The Abraham Lincoln Memorial Highway, America's first transcontinental
highway. For the past few years Major Schlechter has been researching
and documenting the Western end of the Lincoln Highway from San
Francisco to the Utah boarder. The Duarte Garage, built in 1915,
was along the original Lincoln Highway which was completed in
1915.
