first of all i enjoyed the diversity and
oppertunity offered by your website. my reasons for finding it
however are somewhat selfish. it starts in the summer of 1983,
on the beaches of waikiki, oahu, hawaii. yes you guessed, two
peaple met and the falt eral followed. it has been some fifteen
years since then and fifteen years since these two peaple have
seen or spoken to one another. it is my hope to someday find this
person for if nothing else but to take a trip down memory lane.
all i have is a name, KAREN GARNER, and the fact that she lived
in livermore. i beleive she attended livermore high school and
graduated sometime around 1983. after that i've little left but
memories. perhaps out of compasion or a romantic heart you could
post this or maybe fo rward it to anyone whom you might think
can help. if nothing else it is a good story. i wish you all good
health and good spirits, oh and one more thing MERRY CHRISTMAS.
thankyou Tai Johnson, badmed@dancris.com

some information on LIVEMORE the surname, I will try again in
the future in case anybody has. A very interesting site in any
case.

My Great-Grandfather John Calahan came to Livermore by way
of Australia to join his 3 brothers who had immigrated from Ireland
earlier. I and my brother Steve (deceased) were born in St Pauls
Hospital. 1941 for me, 1948 for Steve. My Father, his 3 b rothers,
Carmellus, Russell and Leo, and their mother Margaret calahan
Owens were also born in Livermore. My Mother's family came from
Nebraska and settled in Livermore. Lenore Dietrich Petersen ,
Robert Dietrich (both deceased), Lewis (Bud) Dietrich an d my
mom Mildred. Her father started the Chevrolet Agency, butt sold
hi half early. He died in the mid 50's as postmaster of Pleasonton.
Nice to see this site. Norm

Love the web site and thanks for the R'wood publicity. I'm
fascinated by the contacts from people named Livermore, especially
the British. Has anybody followed up on these?

I have been to Livermore repeatedly on assignments to LLNL.
Now I hear rumors that people at the lab are trying to get rid
of building 212, the last of the hangars from the lab site's early
days as a naval training air base. The hall is a magnificent redwood
structure of maybe the late 1930s. Also, it is a centerpiece of
the early days of the National Laboratory, with accelerator vault
and some old installations. It is situated near the south fence,
near the bus stop. Before someone decides to let it fall into
disrelict (although now acyive laboratories are running inside)
for the general financial shortages, it may be the time to begin
lobbying towards obtaining a historical / technical landmark status.
Once it is gone, it's gone ! Keep this truly remarkable item of
Livermore history maintained, try to see it on an Open Lab Day
(that roof!) and marvel.

I also grew up in Livermore. We moved there in 1966 where I
attended Maryland Ave. School. Is it still there? After that I
went to Third street School and then Inman, which was torn down
several years ago. It was located across the highway from the
gol f course on Doolan rd. I graduated from Livermore High in
1975 and left the next year to serve in the Air Force. I have
been back many times and watched it change a lot. My dad had a
chance to buy 20 acres on Los Positas next to 580 (where there
is now an industial complex) for about $75,000, but he said it
was worthless land and way too high priced. Guess thats why he
never got rich! Livermore is a great town and I do miss it from
time to time but you sure have to pay a price for the climate.
Example: I own a brand new 3600 SF house in a gated private community
on 1/2 acre lot with the closest house over 200 yards away. I
paid $230,000 for it here in Texas. How much would the same house
be in Livermore?

This is a great web site. For those of you who want to connect
with your roots, I suggest you check out the Livermore-Amador
Genealogical Society's web site, at www.l-ags.org. Also, if any
genealogists and family historians read this, we are looking for
the locations of California City Directories for the years 1929,
1930 and 1931. The reason is that the 1930 United States Census
has not been indexed! The Census will be released in 2002. You
may contact me at my e-mail address. David Abrahams, Li vermore,

Very very nice. I was raised in Lafayette, and recall a similar
"county seat" on Upper Happy Valley Road owned by an
Oakland judge who, after my virtual visit to Livermore, I for
the first time realize was in all likelihood behind some similar
scenes a t that time. PastPorts is combines oral history with
travel, virtual and real. When our web site is up and running,
we'll let you know.

Enjoyed the picture of the Carnegie Library. Rode my bike over
for many visits when living in Livermore. I suppose they have
bulldozed the Livermore Elementary School on 5th Street where
I attended Mrs Fannuchi's 4th grade 1952-3 and Miss Gerber's 5t
h grade in 53-54. I also have fond memories of Den 3, Cub Scout
Pack 1, and being a member of the championship Black Panthers
(no political connotations back then, it was just a name) midget
baseball team at the Livermore Recreation center near the schoo
l.

informative and I know she will greatly appreciate it! Thank You.
If anyone has any further information to add, it would help out
